The work that inspired me

Eyes up: suddenly an intricate wood of mulberry, of nodes tying branches together, of leaves sewed in a heart shape, and between them inviting ripe blackberries ready to be tasted … Inverted vertigo, attraction to the primitive beauty of the place dreamt by Leonardo, who paints this splendor for Ludovico il Moro in the Sala delle Asse in the Sforza Castle.

I arrived there many years ago, to meet Michelangelo and his Pietà Rondanini. From the loud Milan city traffic I entered the Castle and, in a pleasing and pacifying paradox, I was enraptured by the awesomeness created by this vault: a wood of love where two lovers chase each other, hiding and revealing, they embrace, tying together bodies and souls. Transferring this bond on a jewel that shows the mark of a thousand nodes, a thousand loves, a thousand passions… Our wonderful life, intricate and winding on the trails of emotions.

Bracelet

Leonardo Da Vinci – Sala delle Asse

Dozens and dozens of sketches and outlines for this bracelet which, as in an enchanting trip in unspoilt nature, found its shape in a metallic fusion layered on different levels. Eight winding nodes draw the infinity, and the hypnotized eye infinitely follows them in their purpose of revealing what love donates us.

A fusion of mulberry leaves is subtended in the shape of a heart, again representing the most powerful feeling. And finally the smooth, minimal base of the jewel, wide, modern, bringing the fifteenth century dream of the great Leonardo here and now. My dream: the past becomes future in a present pleasure.

Wide ring

Leonardo Da Vinci – Sala delle Asse

Lost wax casting for this over size ring: the finger wearing the nodes, the leaves, but also the precious and simple generous fruits: the blackberries in the handmade stone setting consist of rubies and still convey sparks of emotion. Metallic fusion technically rendered in a “stiacciato” bas-relief. As for the bracelet, the subject is depicted on three compressed levels in a millimetre scale.

Multi-scene representation: emotion playing on the stage of love.

Two different precious metal baths for this version: antiqued gold with siam stones and antiqued palladium with light sapphire stones.

Narrow ring

Leonardo Da Vinci – Sala delle Asse

Slightly smaller size for this ring that again is meant to represent love: the nodes are thin capillaries in relief under the skin: they interwine and transport the sap of passion.

Two variants in galvanic metal: antiqued gold and antiqued palladium.
