The Work that inspired Me

Dante Gabriel Rossetti – poet and painter, soul of the English Pre-Raphaelite movement and illustrious representative of Symbolism – in the painting The Bower Meadow dated 1872, he goes beyond the usual repertoire of his painting soaked of symbolism, exoticism and arcane figures. The jewels of this collection, elaborated in the form of a spiral shell, are inspired by the hairstyle of the female figure that plays the hurdy-gurdy, in the idealized melancholy pastime of the women of the Bower Meadow.

Still reminiscing stories of modern art battles that oppose to academic art, attracted as a child by an Ofelia by Millais transported by her melancholy and crazy love along the river, I suddenly met, with surprise and powerful attraction, the Pre-Raphaelites and among them Dante Gabriel Rossetti. His head decoration, used by his model who posed for “The Bower Meadow” and for “Monna Vanna therefore becomes a jewel in my imagination. Made with small pearls mounted by hand on a precious open work fusion, it is made of rhodium and composes the open form and at the same time closed shape of the Nautilus, the shell known as the Living Fossil, also symbol of the beauty of nature. The variants are made of a golden Chanel fusion with topaz stones and in rhodium-plated fusion with rose-colored stones: an intense artisan work of setting that makes them precious.

I already imagined on my finger the ring inspired by the hairstyle of the female figure that plays the hurdy-gurdy, in the idealized gloomy pastime of the women of the bower in the meadow.

I imagined it as the shell of the Nautilus that represents in its perfect form the number of the golden section. Plato defined this value as “the physical key of the universe”, as to define the cosmic and natural structures and to constitute a geometric model of life itself. The bijoux is made of a rhodium-plated metal alloy with rose or crystal stones or in a gold bath with topaz stones.
